Douglas Ruther Architect

I received my Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Cincinnati and began my career in Chicago at a firm that designed corporate offices in skyscrapers.

I moved to Boston with my family where I worked for firms designing corporate interiors, schools, and residential architecture. I developed a strong working relationship with a contractor and was hired by that construction company to become their in-house architect. We provided design-build services to residential clients in the greater Boston area. This was a great opportunity for me to develop a deeper understanding of what contractors need to build best for clients, and to guide and educate the carpenters on the importance of good design, while working together to reduce costs and build in a lasting and sustainable manner.

In 2003 I started my own firm, Douglas Ruther Architect, focusing primarily on residential design, working efficiently and effectively with contractors and vendors that put the clients first. The design and construction process involves many decisions that can be overwhelming without the right support. I advocate for my clients at every turn and use my experience and ability to explain and find solutions to meet the goals of the project, providing steady guidance and great results.
